Heirloom Roses - St. Paul, Oregon (25 miles from Portland)
Heirloom's Louise and John Clements with their experienced staff grow roses both in the greenhouse and dormant outside. This makes it possible for them to ship roses year round depending only on the weather in your area. Several of Dad's favorite roses were purchased from Heirloom Roses by mail-order.   http://www.heirloomroses.com

It is located in the rolling hills of Petaluma about an hour's drive from San Francisco and even less from the city of Napa. Roses of Yesterday and Today - Watsonville, California
The owners of this garden and my father were friends. Their web sites says the garden is open everyday from 9 to 4 and that it has 230 varieties of old, rare, unusual and selected modern roses. It is located in the small town of Watsonville at 803 Brown's Valley Road (831) 728-1901. It might be best to call first if you plan to visit. The web site states they are no longer taking orders for roses as they have discontinued the shipping portion of the business to raise a child.   http://www.rosesofyesterday.com

Sequoia Nursery/Moore Miniature Roses - Visalia, California
This nursery sells mostly own root, pot grown miniature roses as well as a variety of old, modern and some hybrid teas. Ralph Moore has been selling roses for many years and his nursery ships year round in 4" pots. Dad placed orders by mail as well as visited the nursery in Visalia. He and Mr Moore shared a common love for minis so he was pleased with his purchases.   http://www.miniaturerose.com

Vintage Gardens Antique Roses - Sebastopol, California
The web site for Vintage Gardens welcomes visitors to their "online catalog of nearly 3000 antique and rare roses." They also seem to be pretty excited about the introduction of their new sized 5" to 6" deep shipping pots they call BANDS. Since this nursery is located in the neighboring county of Sonoma, Dad made the short drive from Napa to make his purchases from them.   http://www.vintagegardens.com

Weeks Roses - Ontario, California
This wholesale grower of bareroot roses, offers a broad selection of popular, unusual & AARS-winning roses to nurseries and garden centers throughout the United States.  Have you ever wondered how the pros come up with new roses?  Weeks' 40-picture slide show and story at The Making of a New Rose gives you the answer. Tom Carruth, Weeks Roses Since Dad's garden was also a licensed nursery he did business with Weeks regularly.  Although their web site is a must see for its pictures and information they do not directly sell retail mail-order.  If this changes somebody PLEASE email me and let me know.  http://www.weeksroses.com

We received an email from Tom Carruth, Weeks' lead Hybridizer/Horticulturist, stating the link to their site "works" and thanking us for including them.  Tom went on to say, "I had the pleasure of meeting John and touring the garden in about 87 or 88.  The planting was so stunning and the rose plants so large & healthy.  I was very impressed and passed the word around to many friends." Coming from the man at the helm of a rose grower known as "Tops In Roses" worldwide, this is indeed high praise.  I'm sure my father would have been as delighted as I was when I read this.  Thanks Tom.
